Vince Zampella, renowned for co-creating the immensely successful first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a car accident in Los Angeles, California he was 55 years old.

The tragic news was announced by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, a game studio that he helped create.

The celebrated industry figure lost his life when his car crashed and was engulfed in flames on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, according to.

"This represents a devastating loss, and we stand with his family and friends, his loved ones, and all those touched by his work," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts commented.
