Three-time Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "devastating" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets fell 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental contact with teammate Jones.
His teammate landed on the foot of the MVP, who instantly collapsed to the floor holding his knee.
The veteran player, who is leading the NBA this season in boards and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the game prior to incurring the problem.
The player is scheduled for an scan on Tuesday to determine the seriousness of the issue.
"Right away, Jokic understood he was hurt," said Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone that is injured, it's gut-wrenching, most notably a player as special as he is. We will know more tomorrow."
"We'll move on together. Clearly, at this moment, I'm more concerned about him personally and the frustration of going through something of that nature."
