This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
