The Renowned Musician Encourages Public Help to Propel Together for Palestine Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign aims to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disheartened if it fails to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced following a solidarity show held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of musicians appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of acclaimed names from the music world. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The track blends a fusion of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of infrastructure said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a few million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a digital service from later in the month.
