The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
