The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
