Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period like this with results like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
