Former Physician Faces Sexual Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Patients
Prosecutors have announced that a former physician stands accused of carrying out assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were patients.
The Serious Allegations
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous sexual offences – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief CPS official said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges follow what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.
Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents outline the forty-five charges include:
- 15 counts of assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
